Growth type crustose. Chemical results negative

Common on smooth barked trees, branches and twigs.
Host to Arthonia graphidicola, Stigmidium microspilum and Taeniolella punctata

Very variable. Curved or stellate lirellae, +/- open, +/- white pruinose. Carbonaceous margins raised and unfurrowed. Mature spores are colourless but may become brown when old, 5-15 septate, 25-70 x 6-10 µm. Microscope photograph below.
