Growth type crustose
Chemical results: K+ yellow, C-, KC-, P+ faint yellow, UV +/- whitish

Can be locally abundant on smooth, shaded bark. Often forms large mosiacs with P. macrospora

Waxy greenish to pale brown thallus flecked with small white pseudocyphellae. Small black perithecia, 0.2-0.4mm diam. Spores (25-)28-32(-35) x (9-)11-13(-14) µm. Microscope photograph below.

Similar: Pyrenula macrospora has larger perithecia. UV +/- yellowish
