Growth type crustose, margins +/- placodioid
Chemical results: Thallus K-, C-. Apothecia K+ crimson

Found on calcareous stones and mortar, usually on buildings, walls and church monuments. Host to the lichenicolous Diplotomma murorum.

Thick or thin, whitish-grey thallus, margins +/- placodioid. Forms rounded patches, centre +/- sorediate and scurfy, lobe ends forming +/- complete zone round the edge. Rarely fertile, apothecia initially inate, orange-brown. Spores are 14-18 x 8-10 um, type 1C.

Similar: C. albolutescens; lobed margins, Lecanora pruinosa; C+ orange.
