Growth type foliose
Chemical results: Cortex K+ yellow. Medulla K-

Can be found on the twigs and branches of semi-shaded or well-lit trees. Most frequent in the north and west but possibly increasing its range.

The whitish-grey thallus has lobes without pseudocyphellae (though older parts may have very indistinct pseudocyphellae). Small lobules are sometimes present on the lobes and on the margins of the chestnut-brown to dark-brown apothecia.

Similar: Physcia aipolia. Pseudocyphellae abundant. Medulla K+ yellow
